The summer after my second bout of rehab,
I had a vision of myself dying while standing at an
outdoor concert during a lightning storm. I shit you
not: god’s own lightning was striking somewhere in the
not-distant-distance beyond the stage and we watched
it vibrate over the musicians to the true pulse of their
playing.
                    During one song, I had a vision of
           myself dying in a garden.
My hair was to my waist and I was very very old. I must
have been growing that hair for decades. Hailey was
standing to my right, not in the vision but in real life,
and  I  squeezed  her  hand  and  whispered  I  had
something to tell her
later, no rush.
Dagny Rayn Chika is a writer, fiber artist, and educator from the Pacific Northwest. Since being taught how to knit years ago by her best friends while all living off-grid together, Chika’s fiber work and writing have been shown across the country, and have been published online and in print, including recently in The Kingfisher Magazine and Subo Art Magazine. They hold an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She loves to read.
