faq

are simultaneous submissions allowed?

We allow simultaneous submissions, but please notify us immediately upon the instance that your work is accepted elsewhere!

do you accept previously published work?

We do accept previously published work, but it is your responsibility to ensure we have publishing rights, and to let us know where it was first published so we can properly credit the publication.

are there submission fees?

Citron Lit is committed to accessibility. All of our categories are fee-free. However, we do offer a optional tip-jar submission to help cover our hosting costs. Any donations would be very much appreciated.

We also offer feedback for $5, and expedited feedback for $10, which you can choose to receive in the submissions Google Form.

do you pay contributors?

As a entirely youth-run magazine, we currently cannot offer monetary payment, though we are working hard to eventually become a paying publication. However, we work hard to provide a high-quality platform and extensive social media promotion for all accepted writers.

who owns the rights to my work?

You retain all rights. We only ask for first serial rights to publish your work in the issue and non-exclusive rights to keep it in our archive.

who can submit work?

We prioritize marginalized voices-- specifically queer, immigrant, and underrepresented international youth writers-- resisting erasure and mislabeling of their homelands.

what is the typical response time?

We typically respond within 2-3 weeks after you submit your work. If you haven't heard from us by then, feel free to send a friendly query via email on our contact page.

do you nominate for any awards?

Yes, we nominate for most major awards including, but not limited to, Pushcart Prize, Best of Net, Best New Poet, among others.

what is your Ai policy?

Use of generative AI (i.e. Claude, Chat GPT, Gemini) is strictly prohibited and any discovered use of AI will result in automatic elimination of your work, and could potentially affect your rights to submit to our magazine in the future.

ALL submissions must be your original work.

If you have any specific questions or inqueries about exceptions, please email us and we would be happy to let you know.
