In another world, the deer too are free

limbs languid in the winter air.


In their mouths, only the cold scent
of morning, of fresh, biting grass.


Their spines tall and certain,
their hunger   a holy thing.


The bushes gently quiver
with beasts too small to hurt.

Pratiksha Ahuja (she/her) is a poet based in Goa, India. She grew up in a fractured home, crafting stories to survive and to understand herself.
